Direct optical modulation of high-frequency microwave radar waveforms, centralizing RF generation and reducing remote radio head complexity.
Instead of digitizing signals at the antenna, ISACSpine modulates 140 GHz sub-THz waves directly onto a 1550 nm laser carrier using high-bandwidth Mach-Zehnder optical modulators, transporting raw analog waveforms over fiber with zero ADC quantization loss.
At the antenna mast, two optical wavelengths separated by 140 GHz mix on a high-speed uni-traveling-carrier photodiode (UTC-PD), generating pure millimeter-wave RF with sub-femtosecond phase jitter.
